| Watched Azur Lane: Bisoku Zenshin! / Idoly Pride / Non Non Biyori Nonstop / Tenchi Souzou Design-bu / Uma Musume: Pretty Derby (TV) Season 2 / Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki Sansatsume / Yuru Camp△ Season 2 Best Anime The battle was fierce, but I ultimately have to gave this vote to the awesome Uma Musume S2 Positive Surprise I knew that it would be be good, but Uma Musume S2 far exceeded all my expectations. So once again it earned my vote. Best Character This one goes for Tokai Teio (I spot some kind of pattern here...), seeing how she went through seemingly never-ending hardships to keep her dreams alive, while still loving what she was doing and helping McQueen to get past her own problems. Best OP With its catchy song and great visuals, the OP of Yuru Camp S2 definitely earned this one. But even without them, just seeing Nadeshiko warm smile would probably be enough. Best ED The cute and comfy ED of Non Non Biyori Nonstop got this one. |

Stars!! - Tenchi Souzou Design-bu - Uma Musume: Pretty Derby (TV) Season 2 - Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki Sansatsume - Yuru Camp△ Season 2 Best Anime: This can only be Yurucamp S2. I have it at my #1 spot for one-season anime. I don't have an exact count of how many of those I've seen but it's somewhere in the vicinity of 650. There were some great anime this season, club-related and not, but only one made it onto my favorites list. Pleasant Surprise: This one's tough! Do I reward Yurucamp for somehow exceeding expectations despite knowing it was going to be a 9 at worst? How about Non Non Biyori, a show that I've never really liked before this season but finally won me over on its 3rd go-around? Uma Musume s2 becoming my highest rated correctly tagged sports anime? I wasn't even planning to watch Tenchi-souzou Design-bu and that almost ended up as an 8. How do I choose? In the end I'm going to have to go with Non Non Biyori Nonstop as the winner here. Best Returning Character: Yurucamp's ability to be the ultimate 10/10 anime is highlighted by me not really loving any of the characters, though I do like them all quite a bit. Even asking me to choose who I like more between Shimarin and Nadeshiko is impossible. On top of that, my favorite Uma Musume girl was completely absent this season, not just phone-only like Suzuka but even more gone. That leaves this category open for a different anime where instead it's Delmin taking this category edging out Howan and Cyan as well as Renge and her butt-monkey sister whom I affectionately call 'Purple McSmugs'. Best New Character - I have to first shout out PAPAMIN here and while I would love to vote for Non Non Biyori's Shiori as she was absolutely precious, she just did not appear enough and NNB could have been even better had she been in the show from the start. Likewise, as much as I loved the precious super fans of Mejiro Mcqueen and Tokai Teio they were sorely lacking in screentime as well. Instead I will reward the full-season performance of the quite funny Meido from Heaven's Design Team. Kyouko Hori did end up growing on me by the end of her series but it wasn't enough to take this. Mei in Idoly Pride was a lot of fun too but basically had her role played out by the halfway point. Best OP: Show By Rock Best ED: Yurucamp s2 Best New Uma Musume: [TIE] Satono Diamond and Kitasan Black Best Musical Group Inadvertently Named After Pretty Cures: Sunny Peace Tastiest New Food: Tombolos Stretchiest Cheeks: [TIE] Nadeshiko and Ayasaki Remi Including previous season's holdovers the top of this season was impossibly strong, I don't think there's been another one like it. It's a far cry from last summer's pandemic disaster where Umayon won my votes with its 3 minute run time. |
